BP = Big People?

Over 2 months have past and the BP oil spill saga continues. It seems that every day brings about another bit of information about how much oil is actually being spilled and how BP and everyone else is implementing every means necessary in order to collect (and reduce) the leakage of oil in the Gulf. Every day turns into another huge failure for BP and its attempt to harness this huge disaster.I find it hard to believe that a multi billion dollar company has no plan of action for a catastrophe such as this. We're these people asleep during the two years that we spent cleaning up after the Exxon-Valdez spill? Did it never occur to them and their risk management staff that an event such as this could happen? Did it never occur to them (and our government) to have a emergency/disaster plan prepared? This has to be one of the worst handled disasters of all time in terms of attempts to prevent further damage and control the loss, clean-up efforts, and the amount of negative PR a company has received. Oh, and I forgot to throw in the massive cost of all of this. To add to my frustration I have to watch BP spend millions of dollars putting a face man on a commercial every night saying that they are doing everything they can and they are paying everyone.
All things aside, BP has a responsibility to man up and pay for all cleanup costs, all environmental damage costs, and financially compensate all businesses and individuals that have been both directly and indirectly affected by the oil spill.
Hopefully the Deepwater Horizon accident will serve as a wake-up call to BP and government regulators and inspectors (only after enough public outrage though!).
