Kimbo's no Chuck

Kimbo Slice will be competing in his fourth MMA fight this weekend. It wouldn't be such a big deal, but CBS is hosting the fights for free on their network on the EliteXC Fight Night. This is NBC's move to gain fans and attention to the fights that they are promoting.
I don't have anything against Kimbo ----he is a street brawler. You can see all of his street fights online (just search for Kimbo Slice). His background is basically street fighting anybody in the back yard. He's exciting to watch because of his knockout power and he could be pretty good in the future, but I think CBS is way overselling him. They tout him to be the next greatest MMA athlete. He's well known due to the underground fight videos on the internet. In my opinion, he would get destroyed by anyone in the UFC that had even decent submission skills. I would love to see him go against a top 10 fighter. No question, he would lose. CBS has spoon fed him weak fighters over the last 3 fights to get good knockout videos and claim that he is undoubtedly the best. They're matching him up with James Thompson this weekend....another opponent that will be expected to stand with Kimbo and get knocked out. This will produce huge raves from "fans" out there who are just getting into MMA fights. I predict a short, brutal fight that ends with Kimbo knocking Thompson out.
The best fight of the night will be "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler (a legitimate fighter) and Scott Smith. These two guys have been in MMA for years and actually train submissions and striking. I'm giving this one to Lawler.
Either way you see it, it will be a good night of fights. Then, on Sunday, we have one of my favorite fighters - - Jens "Lil" Evil Pulver fighting Urijah Faber for the Featherweight belt in the WEC (these fights will be on Spike). It will be an awesome fight. I don't know how to call this one. It's hard to bet against Pulver since he is undefeated at 145 lbs.

Those fights sucked! Whats with the WWE fireworks and crap? Almost every fight was stopped before it should have been. I hate CBS now.

Kimbo was given that win. He was gassed and could not talk after he "won".

I guess they do not want to show blood on CBS?

Pulver will win on Sunday!
Agreed. The fights started off like a circus with all the smoke and dancers and then ended in a controversial snoozefest.

Kimbo is a joke.

Maybe we can get Kimbo vs. Tito. Tito would destroy him.

It got horrible reviews......CBS should have known better.

The fans deserved better.

The sport deserved better.

The CBS folks ought to take a look at the WEC card on the cable network Versus on Sunday to see how an MMA show is supposed to be put together. They’ll learn from watching that show how to introduce the viewers to the fighters but not drag the show on like a book that goes on 200 pages too long.

They’ll see quality fights between trained and competitive MMA fighters.

Hopefully, CBS didn’t manage to turn off a large segment to the country to what is a classic and compelling sport.

There’s no question, though, that CBS didn’t do MMA any favors Saturday

Brian.. I totally agree with you. That "spectacle" was not what MMA is all about. If the country would have tuned in to Sunday's WEC card, they would have seen the real deal. I'll not watch another production put on by CBS. The prefight production was horrible. Not only was it cheesy, but entirely to long.
By the way.. KIMBO is a fraud. Just as I suspected. The fighter in the ring with him was horrible and Kimbo could barely handle him. Kimbo wouldn't last 30 seconds with any of the top 30 heavy weights in the UFC or the new Affliction series. (Fedor and Tim "The Maniac" Silvia.)
Back to Faber-vs-Pulver.. WOW, what a fight. I believe that was one of the best fights, I have ever seen. I would put it up there with the Iceman-vs-The Ax Murderer. I hope they fight again. Faber did a good job, for never having fought a true top notch opponent.
The other title fight that night was really good also. Miguel Torres, from Indiana, retained his title in another all out brawl. He out punch his Japenese opponent and got a stoppage after the end of the 3rd round, due to a "HUGE" freaking eye.. It was swolled up shut... LOL.. In all, a good and bad weekend for the sport.
