What Happens In Vegas

September 4th marked another milestone for Sarah and I.   I turned 40 and together we celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary.
To answer your question, yes, I did get married on my birthday.....smartest thing I’ve ever done!
To celebrate, Sarah and I worked 19 hours at our Labor Day Party at The Sycamore Winery.  It was relaxing and fun for everyone that attended (all 2,500 people!), but exhausting for us and our crew. Ah, the glorious life of a entrepreneur/business owner.
I then spent my birthday working and networking at the Purdue Foundry at WestGate.  They had great speakers and I made some solid connections in the entrepreneurial community.  Purdue is doing some great things there.  More on that in a later post.
Back to Vegas....Sarah actually planned to setup rooms for me at the Ameristar in St. Charles (St. Louis).  The Ameristar is easily my favorite hotel in the St Louis area.  It has awesome rooms, a great pool, and a clean casino. As much as I love it, I suggested to her that she let me book us a trip instead....I’m sure she wasn’t shocked when my “surprise” trip for us was to Las Vegas.
I started my search for hotels and flights on my go to site, Priceline.  The pricing was good; however, the flight combinations weren’t quite what I was wanting. I wanted direct flights from Indianapolis to Las Vegas.  Southwest Airlines offers direct flights.  One major knock against Priceline is that they don’t offer flight options with Southwest Airlines (hint, hint Priceline).  If they did, I would have booked on my their site.
Instead, I bounced over to Southwest Airlines Vacations site and booked a bundle package for direct flights (nonstop) and a sweet room at the Palazzo.
This was our first time staying at the Palazzo.  My first impression is that it is pretty amazing.

I would put in in the same category as the Venetian and the Bellagio.
You can stay at tons of other casinos in the area for a lot less money and they will be nice, but if you’re looking for an upscale resort style option with a huge room, the Palazzo is worth it.  The marble bath area...

The rooms are amazing and HUGE.
TV’s in the living room, sleeping area, and the bathroom.
The pools are very nice....
...and there are around 10 of them.  That said, it was 105 degrees when we were there and I'm pretty sure that I got sunburn in the first 3 minutes of exposure.  We tried to stay in the shade when hanging out by the pool.
I paid a little extra to get a room with a guaranteed view of the Las Vegas Strip because I love to look at the lights and people watch.  I’m pretty cheap, but on vacations or special getaways like this, I’m willing to spring for a balcony or a room with a view.  And....it was worth it....

The strip and mountain view made the upgrade fee worth it!
