Nice Racks

A lot more young bucks have been running together lately.
You can see five of the smaller bucks passing through our yard in the photo taken last week.  They do their best to decimate our blackberry bushes!
If the neighboring hunters can pass on these young ones, we will have some great mature bucks (and nice racks) in a few years.
Early bow season opens up on October 1st.....can’t wait.

I just got this mount back last month.  He’s a nine pointer taken near my house during bow season last year.

True story.....I shot this deer high on a Sunday morning.  I saw that I had a high hit with my arrow and couldn’t find blood.  I searched for 4 hours with nothing.
Two days later on Tuesday morning this same deer came by me in a different stand about 1/2 mile away.  He was trolling through the woods looking for does with his nose down and came right to me when I hit the deer grunt —— I used a Quaker Boy Phantom Buck Deer grunt call.   I put a good, clean liver/lung shot on him at 20 yards and he didn’t go far.

My dad taught me to hunt when I was single digits in age.  I can still remember sitting in the “Y” of a tree 12 feet up, which was the “tree stand” that we could afford when I was 9 years old.  I’m lucky to still have my dad here to go out hunting with me and to help me out in the woods.
The taxidermy on this deer was done by Schmeltz Taxidermy in Rockville, Indiana.
I was really happy with the result and the speed at which they got him done.  And, their showroom rocks.  It’s filled with tons of cool mounts.  My kids love it.  So much so, that I almost came home with a reindeer mount the last time that we were there!
