Wells and Walls

The well drilling started today. I find the whole well drilling process pretty fascinating.
Basically, a big 30 inch bit is used to drill down into the ground as far as you need to go to hit good water.  Out on our property, most of the wells are around 45 to 50 feet deep.  It's kind of a crap shoot when you drill a well....you may or may not hit good water and you may or may not have to drill more than one hole.
You can see the drill bit (and the start of the hole) in the pic above.  Below you can see the 2" thick and 30" wide concrete pieces that will be stacked on top of each other to make the outer walls of the well.  These are dropped into the hole that they drill out.
The garage walls also went up today.   The space looks enormous when you walk inside.  The walls are really tall.  We chose three 9'x8' garage bays --- we had to go 8' tall so my truck will fit inside.  The total garage is 24'x47'.
Here's a nice view of the walkout basement with the garage on the left and the first floor of the house on the right.
