Florida Fun

Sarah and I had a great time on our beach vacation. We flew into Orlando and stayed for a few days at the Polynesian Resort just outside Disney World and then we jumped on board a Disney cruise ship and headed for the Bahamas. The Polynesian was great because we had a view of the Magic Kingdom from our deck. We watched the fireworks each night. The lake light show left a little to be desired...actually, it was pretty funny to see how cheesy it was, but I bet the kids loved it.

How about my new hat in this picture. Here's a little trip for anyone headed to the SUNNY Bahamas: Don't leave your hat in the car before you jump on the plane. The sun is not friendly. Lucky for me, I picked up this sweet straw hat for $20 on the island of Castaway Cay. Castaway Cay is the private Disney island. It is awesome! There's a huge open beach on one side of the island and a water slide that goes into the ocean and a few gift shops and restaurants. Sarah and I did a "swim with the stingrays" excursion. It was pretty cool because they have the stingrays trained to eat out of your hand. The other side of the island is the adult beach. The island is totally empty except for Disney staff, so until the cruise ship pulls up, it's probably pretty quiet.

We also went to Nassau, Bahamas. In typical tourist fashion, I almost got hit by some of their military driving a golf cart. (seriously, what type of military personnel cruise around in golf carts?). Other than that, it was awesome. We spent the day at Atlantis...did the aquarium experience and checked out the views and then headed back to the ship. This may shock everyone, but I didn't place one bet in the Atlantis casino. Good thing for the poker players there, because I would have taken all their money.

Atlantis is absolutely amazing. Maybe one day we'll go back and spend more than a day there. The best part about Atlantis (I thought) was the incredible water park area and just outside on the docks there are hundreds of enormous (I assume multi-million dollar) yachts. My 16 foot jon boat wouldn't quite fit in.
