What the Heck is a Coatimundi?

This is one of the sweet animals we encountered while we were out and about. It's called a coatimundi. It's similar to a raccoon, but has a lot of distinct markings and it's a little smaller. Here's the cool thing that I found out about the coatimundi; it has an awesome defense technique against predators. It raises itself up and balances on one hind leg and then tucks its tail between its legs and waves it in front of its face. Then, it lets the attacker go for its tail and when it does, it rakes it in the eyes with its sharp claws. Isn't that cool.
We did the normal tourist thing with this group and rolled down the window and fed it bread. Before we knew it, we were surrounded by 30 coatimundis that were just waiting for another piece of something good to eat. Of course, we obliged their request by throwing out more bread in front of another onlooking car.
